Description
You are bidding on a several thousand dollar advertising package which will be supporting a widely publicized Internet event. Read the entire listing carefully; there's a lot you'll be getting with the package, so it's important to read the whole thing. I started the bidding low to encourage interest. Toward the end of August, I will be biking across the United States in support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Oregon. The entire trip will be broadcast live via video directly filmed from the handlebars. The amount of interest this has aroused so far has been staggering. In order to be able to raise the capital necessary to go, I am selling advertising space on my web site which will be covering the event from start to finish. Before I continue about the advertising specifically, you can go to the site to read about the event in greater detail. On there, you will also find a link to the promotional YouTube video, an interview I've had, and other details and questions I've received about the event. You can see these details here: www.iwillnotdie.com/cube/ Here's how the advertising bundle will work: Typically, a strong site (such as John Chow) will charge $500 for one month for a 125x125 ad button. His site gets about 300,000 pageviews per month. I'll be using this metric as a benchmark to show you exactly what you'll be getting. In order to make sure you get maximum value I'm offering everyone 500,000 pageviews, but possibly much more. Your ads will appear starting a few days after this auction ends until sometime in October. I've already begun getting significant traffic now, and I'm not leaving until the end of August. In case I receive fewer than 500,000 pageviews for your ads by the time I come back, your ads will stay on the site until I do. However, if I get 500,000 pageviews in the first two weeks, your ads will still stay on the site until the event is over. Obviously, the up side to this is enormous. The worst case scenario is that you get 500,000 pageviews, and if you were only getting the 125x125 ad, you would be getting $833 worth of advertising. But, you're getting much more than just the 125x125 ad slot, and I might get a million pageviews or more. There are multiple ad slots available, so each bidder will have the opportunity to get each of the following. The difference will be that the order in which these ads appear on the site will be determined by the rank of the bid. The ads will be placed in the same order as the bids. Also, there is a special ad slot for the winning bidder (keep reading for details). So as not to dilute the ads too much, I'm capping the number of ads at 10-20 total, so if there's a hundred unique bids, there will not be a hundred button ads, or a hundred link ads, etc. Here's what each bidder will get (one bid gets you several types of ads): 1. A site wide 125x125 button ad on the right sidebar. These ads will appear on every page of the site throughout the event. The highest bidder will be on top, the second highest bidder will be second, etc. If you do not win the auction outright, you will still be offered an ad position, though you will be lower on the page. 2. A site wide textlink ad on the left sidebar. These ads, like the 125x125 ads will be determined by the rank of the bids. They will also appear on every page of the site and will be toward the top of the sidebar (beneath the live video feed) to ensure maximum exposure. Just these two ads alone would typically cost around $1200-$1500. 3. A permanent ad slot on a sponsors page. Permanent as in forever. As a testament to your having supported this event, you will have your 125x125 ad posted on a sponsors' page forever. I'm not even sure how to value a permanent pictoral ad on a site. 4. Numerous encouragements for my readers to actively view your site. Typically when you purchase advertising space, you get an ad placed and hope a reader on that site will click on your ad to go to your site and see what you are offering. For this ad however, I will be regulalry encouraging my readers to check out your sites because you are supporting an amazing event. The encouragements will look something like what is pictured above. 5. In addition to all of the above, the highest bidder will get a site wide banner (728x90) at the top of the web site for the same duration as their other ads. Finally, each advertiser will receive a token digital "certificate" expressing my appreciation for supporting the event. You can use this to post to your site somewhere to show your readers how you are supporting a special event, not just another ad space. To recap, here is a summary of the ad package you are bidding on: You will be supporting a major charitable event Every ad will be listed for a minimum of 500,000 pageviews, but quite possibly many more The highest bidder will get a 728x90 site wide banner Every bidder will get a 125x125 button ad on the right sidebar Every bidder will also get a text link ad on the left sidebar Every ad will have a permanent ad placed on a sponsors page for life Every advertiser will receive a certificate they can display on their own site showing their support I will be continuously encouraging my readers to check out the ads If you have questions, you can either ask through the ebay question link or send inquiries directly to dereck@iwillnotdie.com
